Drop Camp Rifle Elk, Deer & Bear Hunt Trips
Our
fall rifle hunts follow the weather patterns. Our first hunts provide warm
days and cool nights. The elk are bugling - providing great opportunities
for nice bulls to be taken. Our last hunt is normally in snow, tracking
and spotting elk as they head for winter range.
Our drop rifle hunts take place in Units 27 and 36. These areas are
well timbered with mountain meadows and some sagebrush to provide great elk
habitat. The elevation range is 6,500 to 9,000 feet.
Some of this area lies within the River of No Return Wilderness. These rugged
mountains are the headwaters of the Middle and Main Fork of the Salmon
River. These are primarily elk hunts with mule deer and bear as a secondary
species.
Drop Camps are the ideal hunt for experienced hunters and outdoorsmen who do
not require guides and cooks. With a drop camp, we provide all the necessary gear
for your party to stay comfortable in the backcountry on your own. We
pack your party and gear in on horseback and will familiarize you with the
area. All meat is packed out at no additional charge.
Although horses are not left in camp, we will check on each camp two times
during your stay. We will pack your game out from the kill site, as long as
our horse can get to your animal.
Hunters should plan to arrive in Stanley the night before the hunt is
scheduled to begin. We will plan to meet you that night and pack your
groceries and duffle. Menu suggestions, gear list and camp equipment lists
are available upon request.
